Acceptance

How does one get in touch with reality? What is reality anyway? Yesterday a friend shared a video on her page, which stated that reality is personal, in the sense that it is my reality and not the reality. Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras (the 5000 year old Indian scriptures which describe yoga) state that the way we perceive the world is dictated entirely by our mind and its tendencies and aberrations. We base our decisions on what we like or dislike. We mix up what we like with what is good for us. We seldom look at the process of how we came up with a decision regarding a situation, a person or even an object. It has been very tough for me to accept my reality the way it is. It took time and practice. It also took patience. The practices of Yoga are very simple and at the same time, they are very difficult. They are difficult because they demand patience, attention and consistency from us. A simple practice of observing 12 breaths four times a day took me weeks to bring to regularity. It r...
